HEOP Support Services
Pre-Freshman Summer Program
All incoming HEOP pre-freshmen take part in an intensive five-week summer program, which orients students to college life at Fisher and helps prepare them for future academic work. The purpose of this program is to assist students in making the academic, social, and personal adjustments that are essential for educational success. The pre-freshman program offers a variety of developmental courses and workshops. Courses consist of study skills, mathematics, writing, and psychology. Workshop topics include college life, financial aid, choosing a major, personal concerns, career planning, and money management.
沙巴体育滚球We are aware that many students entering college experience problems in this new environment. As a result, to help ensure success, the Academic Opportunity Program Office maintains a full-time counseling/advisement staff. This means that all HEOP students may receive individual and group counseling on a variety of topics vital to college success, including academic, personal, social, and career development.
沙巴体育滚球Tutorial services are provided to all students enrolled in HEOP. Both group and individual study sessions are available. These services are offered to all HEOP students free of charge. Tutorial services are also available to all students through the College's Center for Career and Academic Planning and Math and Writing Center without cost.
Individual Tutoring Sessions
Individual tutoring is available to students each week in select subject areas. Academic areas include English, writing, math, science, and business. Tutoring may be available on weekends but for select subjects only such as English, writing, and business.
For individual tutoring services, students must first complete a Tutor Request Form [pdf] and submit it to the academic support coordinator/counselor in the HEOP Office between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Requests shall be fulfilled within a 24-hour timeframe and a notice of approval will go directly to the student via email. He/she is responsible for reviewing the notice and contacting his/her assigned tutor directly in order to set up an appointment. In the case of the academic support coordinator/counselor being out of the office, please see the administrative assistant.
Students are also required to complete an Individual Tutor Student Contract [pdf]. The contract helps to ensure that the student commits to his/her request in needing one-on-one assistance. Upon completion of individual tutoring, the student is responsible for completing a Tutee Evaluation [pdf] in response to the service provided by his/her tutor.
Note: Students are responsible for printing all tutoring forms prior to drop-off at the HEOP Office.
